2003 Round 7Tuesday July 8 2003
The Raiders opened up an early lead against the Emus, slotting 5 goals in both the first and second quarters to the Emus 2 in each, and then really opened up the game with an 8 goal burst in the premiership quarter. With both sides fielding a number of EU players, it was a good opportunity to have a look how the boys form ahead of defending last years Brit Cup victory. And there were some impressive signs on both fronts, with Belly doing well in defence for the Emus, while Rory was providing an option up in attack for the Wildcats. And along with SOS and Gus, the Raiders forwards were creating plenty of problems for the Emus. In the midfield, Blacky turned in his best game for the year, while Jase Hughey is still getting better with each hit out and Robbie Byrne was serviceable in his last game for the year. In the end though, not even Andy Stephenson playing well across half forward and Ako turning out in the red, black and gold was enough to stop the Raiders from continuing on their winning way and they eventually won by 15 goals. To their credit though, the Emus did regain some pride, when led by Cindy and along with Ako, Andy Stephenson and Daisy, the boys easily outgunned the Raiders in the boat race. This weekend is obviously the Brit Cup for all of our EU players on Saturday at North London’s new home ground at West Ham, and the boys I’m sure would love as much support as they can get. As well as this, there will be a training session on Saturday at Trailfinders for everyone else, as we really need to start working hard on our fitness now in the run home to finals glory! Go Cats, Dogga. |
