The Wild Day Out 2 - The 2002 Beach Party

Well Ladies and Gentlemen, the photos you see below, do indeed tell a colourful and exciting story. It all began on the sunny summer afternoon of July 28 2002 in the Shepherds Bush Walkabout (seems to happen a lot to us...).

The Schnakey B's started flowing immediately and the 2002 Wild Day Out II Beach Party was under way. Grappa took to the mike as M.C. for the day, unfortunately it seemed a few people weren't listening to him, but Andy grabbed their attention with a few cracks of the dirty great bull whip he brought with him (those must be funny beaches you go to mate).

Plenty of Hawaiian shirts, leis, grass skirts, goggles, and bikini tops were to be seen as the crowd gathered to watch the competitions. Sam easily won the hula hoop contest, and the Reef Race and Limbo competitions went down a treat. The prizes were flying out, and included Guinness packs (with loads of stuff like t-shirts, fleeces, hats etc), Dirty Dog packs, and loads of other Dirty Dog surfwear.

But a silence descended over the mighty 'Bush as the girls came out for the final of the bikini contest. Six girls were in the running for the first prize of £350 cash (plus two very dodgy-looking last minute entrants) and they were all stunning. Grappa plied them with witty questions, and their male stage-escorts mucked around behind them like a bunch of moon-tanned monkeys, but they kept their cool and the judges decision was brought down to the wire.

The winner can be seen collecting her £350 prize in the last photo above (white bikini)

Well after the main highlight, Wildcat Land certainly did not go quiet - in fact the day just got better and better! Soaring temperatures in the Walky forced most of the Cats' shirts off, and bikini tops were the go with the occasional Kitten. Water pistols kept everyone a bit cooler as the drinking and cavorting went on into the night.

As with most nights out these days there were a few challenges laid out in the skulling stakes. Daisy had an unsuccessful crack at the number one spot, although it has been reported he was pretty close (aren't they all!). Immediately afterwards Jacko saw an opportunity to lay another one on the reigning champ, and we were lucky enough to have some paparazzi standing by to take second-by-second shots.

And here's the run down: Jacko on the left with blue goggles takes on the Mighty 'Rella on the right with the yellow goggles. Jacko tries the classic 'psycho' approach, but is stared down, so he then tries spilling some of his drink. The glasses are levelled, and the drink-off begins, but the fear can be seen in Jacko's eyes, as the Captain gets off to a cracking start. Jackson's empty glass is straight on his head, but its too late - the crowd know who's won, in fact the Champ has had the glass on his head so long waiting for Jacko that he's started taking it off again! A fantastic day, and another unforgettable moment in Wildcat history - special thanks to the social committee and very especially Sam Willoughby who again was reponsible for the superb organisation of this massive event.
