Round 8 Summary

Monday 8 July 2002

Another BARFL round of football over and yet another mixed bag of results for the Wildcats. The Cats themselves headed down the M4 for the second time in a month to take on Bristol, and returned to London that night with a 123-point victory on board. This was despite the fact that they didn't manage to find the style of play they had showed against Sussex prior to the Brit Cup break.

Fuller and Ice were getting plenty of it playing on the ball, whilst up forward it was the usual suspects in Richo and Ako doing the majority of the damage, finishing the day off with six and five a piece. Apparently Ako's last goal was a ripper, but he's the only one I've heard that from so far and I am awaiting confirmation from more reliable sources. Gools was also a solid contributor all day, while the Irish quartet of JB, Mango, Aidan and new recruit Liam all worked well, with the latter two both chipping in for a couple of majors.

Meanwhile at Regents Park, the Emus were unfortunately being taught something of a football lesson. After a reasonably promising start, the boys were bought quickly back to earth with Regents Park piling on the goals in the latter part of the first and second quarters. It also seemed that the curators in that area had gone on strike, with them mowing the grass perfectly all of the way around the ground, but forgetting to mow the oval. Perhaps the boys were too busy trying to see each other through the long grass or worried about getting bitten by snakes to concentrate on the task at hand. All problems were somewhat more confounded by early injuries, meaning that we were one player short and with not many options due to a lack of key big men. Andy Carroll battled hard in the ruck all day, while Doof was arguably the Emus best working hard all day. Up forward Jimi Kelly kicked two goals while Wayls finished the day with our only other major as we were overrun by more than 20 goals. The Raiders had the bye.

This weekend the Wildcats travel to St Helens on Saturday for a weekend trip, while the Emus are away to the Fulham Tigers in a game they need to win to keep their finals hopes alive. And after a couple of weekends off due to a double bye, the Raiders are back in action on Sunday against Clapham at Clapham Common.

Go Cats,

Dogga.
